Hadrian's Wall Day 1 Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle

This is the river Eden and was taken as we went around the northern part of Carlisle. Technically this part of the footpath is closed due to flood damage in 2005 but we managed to complete it without any difficulty.

We started the day in Newcastle and then caught the train to Carlisle before finally getting a taxi to start the walk at Bowness On Solway. An easy first day, very flat and the weather was relatively cool. Whilst we were on Hadrian's Wall Path there is virtually no evidence of the wall to be seen on this part of the walk.

Charles's rucksack had not appeared at Newcastle airport when we arrived but was subsequently found there. To their credit Flybe delivered it to our bed and breakfast in Carlisle where it was waiting for us on our arrival.
