The Palo Verde trees, and their various close relatives, are everywhere here. They are highly adapted for desert life - tiny leaves and photo-synthesis through the green bark. They ate also covered in tiny yellow flowers in the spring. The blossoms collect on the ground like yellow snow. In fact, the day I took this, the breeze had carried so many on to the freeway, it actually looked like the very first stage of snow accumulation, when curving streamers of tiny flakes are blown around the surface by the passing of the cars
