Romney Marsh, St Thomas Becket, Fairfield

Over the weekend we visited a number of the medieval churches in the area.  This enchanting little building is the only one I've been to before (a long time ago).  It stands in the middle of sheep pastures - you can't drive up to it - and now has ditches crossed by good wooden footbridges.  In the past the marsh wasn't properly drained and parishioners often had to row out to church!

The interior in Extras was taken from the minstrels' gallery of St Clement's Church in Old Romney.  The majority of the churches we say had plain glass in the windows, which made them feel light and airy, and box pews, like those here.  Apparently both these attributes are Georgian (18th century).

The second Extra is just a house we passed several times on our travels and which I rather loved because of where it stood - rather upright and like a kid's drawing - in the middle of vast flat fields.
