...and having dragged junior and his mate C away from 'screen time' (eeeek!) they actually had a great time hill walking and fossicking for quartz.

Rumour has it that at one time many moons ago a prospector was convinced there was gold in 'these thar hills' and hand dug small pits but with little success.
However he did unearth shards and lumps of quartz and the lads collected so many pieces they used curved slabs of bark like coolamon (extra) to carry them back to the van.

Not only fossicking BUT a sleep over as well...and worn out by fresh air! they were asleep before me (and that is saying something!)

'A coolamon is an Indigenous Australian carrying vessel. It is a multi-purpose shallow vessel, or dish with curved sides, ranging in length from 30–70 cm, and similar in shape to a canoe. Coolamons were traditionally used by Aboriginal women to carry water, fruits, nuts, as well as to cradle babies.'
