Meeting Rita

TandeM and I were at the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary, Barcaldine near Oban, today. What fantastic work they do there, conservation and preservation of species. Love it.

My absolute favourite, being a Cancerian ruled by the Moon, was the Moon Jellyfish, aurelia aurita, or Rita for short as T christened them. These are the most common jellyfish, not huge being 5-40 cms wide. These were maybe 15cms.

Their delicate pulsing motion is a joy and beautiful to watch. I would have little trouble believing they are an alien species, so strange in their own little starlit universe. In my pictures today they looked as if they were ascending into light, a metaphor for what we need to do perhaps, to rid ourselves and our world of the insidious negativity, darkness and suffering.

Rita captured my imagination with her strange pulsing rhythms and delicate but oh-so-strong life force, alive and well in what to her must be a very alien universe - a fish tank - and yet here she is, surviving and moving onwards and upwards. An inspiring visit in more ways than one.
