Macau with the Parents

Easter was spent in Macau. After last nights adventures we were hoping all would go smoothly, and it did after a bit of a bumpy start. The tickets said that we needed to be at the ferry terminal 15-20 minutes for departure. We got there earlier than that, grabbed coffee and ambled around looking for the correct entrance (there are different entrances for the companies). We find it, enter, and then see the line for passport control....... We knew there was going to be passport control but not that there was only going to be two counters opened for foreigners and that the lines were going to be as long as they were. Suffice to say we didn't make our boat and that did not make for a good start to the day. Thankfully we got on to the next one and made it to Macau only a little later than we hoped. 

Macau is known for two things: gambling and its Portuguese colonial history. The city is this bizarre mix of grand shiny casinos and dilapidated apartments with old Portuguese cobbled lanes and buildings dotted among them. We saw the Ruinas de San Paulo (which also housed Colégio de São Paulo, the first Western university in Eastern Asia) , the Fortaleza do Monte (the original Portuguese settlement) and Largo do Senado. There was a staggering amount of tourists running around taking way more selfies than necessary.

The main reason we went though was to see the House of Dancing Water show. It was stunning. Absolutely amazing. There was so much going on, high dives, gymnastics, water stunts, a hilarious evil jester, motorcycle stunts. It was .... indescribable!

To finish off our time in Macau we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant on the premises before heading home to Hong Kong.
