The Swimmers, a Bronze Sculpture. 1966
This sculpture was moved from it's prime position by Parkside Swimming Pool, in order to build a skate park, which is well used. However, I had a job to find it, as it is surrounded by trees and overgrown bushes by an obscure corner of the building, with only the upper part on view. So, I forced my way in as near as possible, but was unable to get the full sculpture. It is a lovely piece of work designed by Betty Rea (1904-66), who was involved in international socialism and was passionate about the welfare of children. She taught sculpture at Homerton College Cambridge. It was completed after her death by John W. Mills.
