Saltaire

Visit to Salt Mills in Saltaire in Yorkshire. The mill was opened in 1856 by Titus Salt who went on to build an entire community around it, including schools, a hospital, parkland, a hall, and houses for workers. It's a very interesting place. Well worth visiting.

The mill itself closed in 1986. It was saved by Jonathon Silver who bought it and began a multi million pound restoration project. Today it hosts a gallery of David Hockney pieces, upmarket shops, and a restaurant with the most amazing smoked chicken and mango salad.
