Lunar / Chinese New Year Decorations
Lunar New Year's (here, it's mostly known as CNY; C as in Chinese) round the corner! Usually it falls in February, but this year's Lunar calender states that it'll be on January 26th. After church, Dad and I had a simple lunch at a nearby coffee-shop: half-boiled eggs and kaya toast with a cuppa hot Milo for me, and meatball porridge and prawn-based 'chee cheong fun' for my Dad.
This was followed by a walk around our town's central, and saw a shop selling all sorts of Chinese New Year Decorations. It would be difficult to miss it, as all the things they sold were in red, bright, striking red :) Even the cute cow/ox soft-toys!
This coming CNY marks the start of the Year of the Ox, according to the Chinese Zodiac Calendar. All in all, it has 12 Zodiac Animals. So, similar to how each of our astrological signs (pieces, aries, taurus, etc) happens once every 12 months, one has to go through a cycle of 12 years before making it to his/her Zodiac year.
This year happens to be my year -- yes, I'm an Ox! I used to exclaim to others that, "I'm a Cow!" but realised it sounded *so* wrong! haha~ ^0^
