Spanish Bluebells
The day started bright, but is quite cloudy now. I did get some good light on these Spanish bluebells though. I much prefer the native English bluebells as I like the way their dainty bells hang sideways, they are much prettier. These invaders are a threat to the native species. Did you know that the way to tell the difference between the two species is that English bluebells have white pollen but the Spanish bluebells have blue pollen. The former also droops over and the latter stand upright. And of course the Spanish invaders have no scent. These bluebells are part of the Asparagaceae family, and you can see why just by looking at these flowers.
Luke leaves to go back to Durham tomorrow - it will then be back to a quieter household until the next holidays. I think I need a holiday now! Gavin and I had a laugh remembering when the boys were little; we had three boys aged five years and below, we were up to our eyebrows with nappies, sleepless nights, tantrums, fussy eaters and we used to sigh and say 'don't worry, only a few more years of this and it will all get so much easier'. What a joke - any parent of a teenager/young adult knows that your worries as they go out into the wide world and out of your control only get to be much more serious ones. Baby days were so easy by comparison!
