Blawearie

After a late start and one of MrM's big breakfasts, we walked up to Blawearie from Old Bewick, stopping to look at the Bronze Age Blawearie Cairn on the way. Blawearie is an old farm building, commandeered for military training in the 1940s. After that it remained empty and the buildings are now ruins, but there's a magical atmosphere about the place. Not far, but a good walk with some lovely views over the moors and the Cheviot Hills (extra).

Back to the flat for a short while, then Lucy and Jake piled their belongings in to the car and MrM drove us down to Alnwick for a meal at Carlo's. Time for a short walk on Alnmouth beach before heading to Alnmouth station, where we waved Lucy and Jake off on the train for their journey back to Leeds. The long weekend seemed to pass in a flash...
