morning reflections
Thank you for all your kind comments yesterday. Am feeling much stronger today and had a nice e-mail exchange with a colleague in another department who really encouraged me and was a small voice of sanity. Its giving me a lot to reflect on. Maybe something about the new term but I sometimes find September a better time for new beginnings than January. I like my job on the whole but feel very out of sorts with the culture ..a culture that reflects today's wider society where integrity seems to matter less than a particular idea of achievement . I guess its about how I can find a way of doing what I enjoy but in a way that reflects who I am.
Anyway the weekend has started well with a talk I attended in a nearby village by Robin Laurence the photo journalist. Sometimes life takes on a bit of a theme and he spoke a lot about the difference between getting a good, well constructed picture against a picture that tells the truth and illustrated this with many famous images from the press.
Something that resonated with my own experience was about how he often judged his own pictures by the effort that had gone into them rather than the 'best picture'. I find it hard to judge my own pictures as I am sure most do but when I do its often based on the effort rather than the result.
Please accept my apologies for being so behind on checking out what you have all been doing -life is exceptionally full on and there is a very busy weekend ahead but I will try and catch up -promise!
