Along the Almond

One of the bonuses for living in Barnton is the proximity of the river Almond walkway leading down to Cramond foreshore and Cramond island.

On a dull afternoon a stroll along from Cramond, and up towards the weir past the boat club brought us to the Falls cafe, situated just at the bottom of School Brae.

Run by Elaine, bubbly, vivacious and self confessed clairvoyant it provided a welcome cup and a tempting home baked scone. When she said to me "what would you like ?" I was tempted to say "you tell me !" but I had left my smartarse head at home that day.

Cramond Mill previously known as Cockle Mill dates from the 17th c and was an iron mill before converting to a pulp mill in the 18th c.

Cramond itself is one of the oldest inhabited sites in Scotland with evidence of human occupation dated back to 8500BC , later colonised and fortified by the romans it has a fascinating history and a rather pleasant church.
