All Saints Church, Beyton, Suffolk

Our afternoon walk was planned for Bradfield Woods just outside Bury St Edmunds to see the beautiful bluebells which are now starting to appear in many wooded areas. On our arrival the small car park was full so we detoured to a pretty little village nearby called Beyton and found a lovely circular walk and Bracken was more than pleased to have some new smells to investigate. At the end of the walk our car was parked next to this unusual looking church. The tower is an early one and probably Saxon and the rest of the church is almost entirely a Victorian rebuilding as apparently this church was falling down by the early 1800s. A local architect, John Johnson of Bury, was responsible for the rebuilding of the nave in the 1850's to which he added a north aisle. While I waited outside with Bracken Mr OE had a look around inside and said it was very impressive and well cared for.
