The 12 Apostles

We're now on Arran but having trouble with the internet which will hopefully be fixed soon.
Most of today was spent in travelling down from Glen Coe to Kintyre to catch the Ferry across to Lochranaz  on the Ise of Arran.
It was funny going past places that  I recognised from blip including
Port Appin, Lochgilhead, Kilmartin and standing stones and the Tin Garage at the pier and a now familiar lighthouse :)
A safe crossing and we sat and had lunch near the ruined Castle at Lochranza. We were in time for the famous Daffodil tea where we had tasty scones washed down by a cup of tea. What a great fundraiser, so many people coming and going.
We drove round the outside of Arran ,stopping at Catacol to see this beautiful row of beautiful fisherman cottages none as the 12 Apostles, quite appropriate for this time of year. They were built in around 1850 intended to provide a home for some who had been cleared from their land to make room for deer and sheep. The intention was that they would make a living from Fishing but many choose to emigrate to see if they could find a better life elsewhere so they remained empty for some years and also went by the name of Hungry Row. Some are used as Holiday Homes now and are in a super setting right next to a pebble beach where we found some pretty pieces of pottery.
Each window of the cottages is different so that when the Fisherman were at sea the wife would light a candle in the window so the Fisherman would know who was signalling.
We drove by banks filled with primroses, bluebells and pink campion, We spotted a seal in a small cove and several mergansers.
We arrived to a very sunny Whiting Bay and settled into our little cottage, Peacock Cottage, which is attached to a much grander house. Beautiful artwork inside as the owner is an artist and has a gallery next door.
