Sawflies

Sawflies don't have much of an identity of their own. As adults, they resemble flies or wasps, and when immature they look much like caterpillars. There's no single neat and tidy taxonomic group to which all sawflies belong.

So what exactly is a sawfly? They're often described as stingless wasps. These larvae are pretty ugly and I had never seen a bunch of them on the ground like this before. They are usually up on branches of gum trees where they will spit at you if you stand underneath.
