Dig Deep!
Change of scenery but more hard work! I have potatoes that badly need to get in the ground so after chicken open and deep clean of the coop some hard digging was called for! The patch that has been covered by carpet this last year was further exposed from my digging over a week ago. Just enough to get 5 rows of potatoes in! The ground that had been exposed looked like some parched African river bed! I stuck my fork in the grooves and just hoiked up great clods of earth! I also found stones I had forgotten I had laid down as path, so these had to be picked out, along with roots of raspberries and of course couch grass!
I was joined by The Partner of the woman who has moved down from Birmingham - he is still working there for another year so was down to lend her a hand! Fellow Allotmenteer then arrived and it was time for a tea break and half his Cucumber, vinegar and pepper sandwich! I then remembered I had Brownies in a Graze box in my car so we shared those! He also lent me a battery end to my vaper - what a life saver!
back to the digging and by the time I had finished no energy left for breaking up the clods! Me and The partner agreed it seemed harder digging after our break! He is heading back home tomorrow so I gave him 4 eggs for sandwiches on the way up! I showed him the massive egg from one of the chickens - it explained the noise she had been making laying it!
Brummie Girl turned up and after giving her a spare compost container and some rhubarb I arranged to meet her in the village for lunch the next day and a proper catch up. A friend from the first school I worked at had texted to say her husband was playing in the pub sat night and did I want to meet up, so I invited brummie girl too! Two social events in one day? I think I must be moving on!
The Chairman of the Allotments then turned up and i checked how many plots i had to pay for. I told him next year I would probably give part of my 2 1/2 plots up - If i'd met him sooner I could have given up a half now - but given that it was the part I had just dug I was damned if I was going to let someone else benefit from my labour!
Home for more cleaning in preparation for the Canadian relatives coming sunday, but not before some food and a bit of a snooze with Milkshake! I also realised I had come home with the battery from Fellow Allotmenteer - I shall have to poke it thru his shed door next time I go up! Oops!
My blip is my Viburnum about to flower in my front garden with a background of Bluebells and Mexican Orange Blossom - such a heavenly smell as I walk up the path already - everything in my life seems to be opening up and blooming - fingers crossed it continues!
