How to transfer blips onto a desk

We are renovating our home, bit by bit. The interior designer suggested to use the old desk, just  paint it white except the surface of it. She told how to transfer photos onto the wooden surface. After many, many failures I almost gave it up, but tried once more today. 
Some finishing touch and the old desk is something very different one from the original!
