The steam vents inside the crater of Mount Vesuvius are a reminder that it is just sleeping. 
It was slightly un-nerving when half an hour after this photo was taken, we heard a rumbling thunder...but it was just clouds that gathered in a relatively short time, followed by a harmless thunderstorm and light rain.
