Beinn a’Bhuird

As forecast the weather was fine after a little early morning cloud. We drove to the parking at the Linn of Quoich, and set off on our bikes; initially on a path with raised drains (we needed to walk), and then on a track. Storm Frank has washed some of the track away, but we sidled round the burn rather than using the ‘temporary’ diversion. We cycled 7.5 Kms and then went up to the new path that replaces an earlier track that practically went to the top of the hill. Thankfully the National Trust of Scotland has done a great job of removing the scar, and the path is a great way up to the plateau. Beinn a’Bhuird is a really massive hill with a really large area above 1050 metres, and lovely easy walking. We went up there to see the views from the Munro, and its 5 tops. It was a long way, 22 Kms of walking, but the views were good, albeit a little hazy. There was a cold wind, but still a shorts day. The main blip is of the coires on the east side of the hill; there is still some snow, but more like a typical end of May than early April. The extra is S on her way down with Beinn a’Ghlo in the distance. We got back to the bikes and had an uneventful journey back until the last drain on the path that looked small enough to just roll over. It wasn’t, so in slow motion I went A over T and banged my head on the path. Luckily I had my buff on, (maybe a helmet would have been better), so only had a nasty scrape and a sore neck. I’ll be more circumspect next time.
