View westwards from the Monument, London

The Monument's viewing platform is 160 ft. (48.7m.) high.  This massive column was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built in the 1670s as a memorial to the city's Great Fire of 1665.

This view is the best now available, as skyscrapers are springing up to the north and west of the Monument and in the process blocking ever more of the view.  The viewing platform can only be reached by treading the 340 or so steps.

In the middle distance is Tower Bridge.
