Nuts
After after a morning of learning songs and answering emails I took Gulliver to the hospital for a food challenge, last summer he had anaphylactic shock after eating some nuts in Bali and now carries an Epi pen, he is clinically allergic to macadamia and hazelnut, and mildly allergic to some other nuts So today he was tested on pecan and walnut cookies which I made yesterday from a recipe given to me by the hospital.
We had a very nice nurse helping us, he started by rubbing some of the cookie on his lip then after 20 minutes had a few crumbs, then after 20 minutes a big bite, then after 20 minutes the rest of the cookie, then after another 20 minutes another whole cookie then after another 20 minutes and yet another blood pressure and heart rate test which he passed with flying colours we were asked to wait an hour just to check everything was okay. During eating the first cookie he experienced some itching on his tongue but it didn't last long. He said he really enjoyed the cookies and we are pleased that we now know he can eat these nuts safely if he wants to.
The whole experience took three hours!
There was a little boy there being tested on peas and playing very nicely with his sister. There were lots of babies there, I don't know what was wrong with them except the one who had very bad eczema and was wearing mittens and another little girl of 20 months who was having trouble breathing and every time they put the oxygen mask on her she screamed in terror, it was horrible to listen to, poor little thing.
Afterwards I took Gulliver for waffles, I screenshot sauce and a chocolate milkshake! Back home we watched the end of the Tudors series, such a great programme.
Gulliver had a guitar lesson this morning and his teacher is recommending that he goes for his grade 4 in the summer , I think Gulliver will decide to do it.
