Relativity of color
I had second to last colour theory art class in the evening. In the picture is one of our tasks to study how different one colour looks when placed on different coloured backgrounds. A colour has many faces, and one colour can be made to appear as two different colours.
Josef Albers is one of the pioneers of colour researchers. In 1963, he published Interaction of Colour which presented his theory that colors were governed by an internal and deceptive logic. This work has been republished since and is now even available as a cell phone app.
In visual perception a colour is almost never seen as it really is — as it physically is. This fact makes colour the most relative medium in art. In order to use colour effectively it is necessary to recognise that colour deceives continually. It should be learned that one and the same colour evokes innumerable readings. - Josef Albers (March 19, 1888–March 25, 1976)
