The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset
Our grandchildren are on a flying visit to us so today we took them to the Bovington Tank Museum.
The exhibition provides a very interesting history of the development of the tank with vehicles on view from many countries.
The photograph was taken during an exhibition of some armoured vehicles being taken through their paces.
The tank shown is a German built Leopard tank, originally owned by the Canadian army and donated to the museum.
The exhibits display the awesome power of tanks coupled with engineering and technology at its best.
Whatever sadness one feels while looking at the tanks, I felt the sentiment shown on an information board summarised the feeling well.
“Ultimately, The Tank Museum is a place of memorial and despite the fascination with technology, and the sheer physical presence of these tanks, we have a moral responsibility to remember what they were used for and the regime who created them.”
