The Coffin Stone

I did a recce today for the walk tomorrow. Having done the recce I decided that I would take them on a more interesting route - these walks are meant to be fun and I think the route I had planned wouldn't be that.

This is the coffin stone, just up the hill from Dartmeet and not far from the road. Tradition was that coffins were rested on large granite boulders as the bearers took a rest. Legend has it that an upopular and evil soul was being carried. When rested on this stone a huge bolt of lightening struck it and engulfed it in a blazing inferno. As the fire died down it could be seen that the Coffin Stone had been split in two.
