Passing the Box

Granddaughter Z, who will turn 15 soon, had an early birthday gift from Grandpa Phil today -- one of his handmade wooden boxes, with an inscription on its base. 

I took some photos of this special gift-giving, documenting a moment that many decades from now, Z might tell her grandchild about while showing this box to her or him. The timelessness of black and white seemed most appropriate here.

After some refreshments and a good "catching up" conversation around the table, Z and her family continued their trip north to British Columbia to have a few days of skiing. We'll be away on her birthday, so we were delighted that this family connection could be made today!
