National Plant Monitoring Scheme

A few weeks ago our parish circulated a request for anyone who would like to help with the NPMS. As Rob is retiring this year I thought it would be a good idea if we volunteer and do a monitoring square together.
We were allocated a 1km square out beyond Sedbergh near Cautley Spout and as today was good weather we went over to take a preliminary look. Initially we were saw just a dull old sheep grazed hill but we plodded up to locate some possible survey plots and found some areas of wet flush that promise some summer flowers.
Back on the other side of the road is an area of old woodland with hazel, oak, and fine old larch trees. Another possible plot has a small natural pond, and was a lovely walk to reach it.
Pepper was rather terrified of the troll under the little wooden bridge we had to cross so we made her cross it twice so I could photograph her! See extra!
Back at our car a nice little old lady asked if we had spotted the Roman centurion in the stonework of the bridge, and said he had been in the centuries old original bridge, and reinstalled when the new bridge was built.
We went back, and there he is!
