Do Kids Still Make These?

“Off on another mission but something's wrong – the cockpit appears to be smeared in glue and I can't see out, I only have two propeller blades instead of four, the landing gear has been permanently glued down and someone’s done a really shoddy paintjob…”

My airfix model of James Edward (Johnnie) Johnson’s spitfire showing some of the ravages of time and the skill deficit of a 12 year old.

I didn't know then that it was a model of a real spitfire - EN 398, a mark IX flown by the famous war time pilot who was leader to two Canadian Squadrons, hence the maple leaf, and who was reponsible for the demise of a great many enemy aircraft. If you were a squadron leader you got to choose which letters went on the fuselage - hence the "JEJ"
