It's a curious fact of travelling anywhere, but the return leg towards home always seems faster.
The reverse hike of scrambling up and down some really steep hills, and following firebreak roads back to where the cars had been parked was only 7 or so km, but they knocked an hour off the time it took them on the way in. Less breaks, less weight, less anxiousness?
Yes, but also more confidence, more team support, more fun.
