Foss

The kids have started their easter holidays, so I thought I'd help them get it underway with a day trip to York.

We started at the Railway Museum (extra), which didn't hold their interest as much as it did a few years ago, but they still wanted to ride on the miniature railway with 12yo taking the prime spot just behind the driver (extra). And we got two of the new pound coins in change from the cafe, so that was a bonus. And I got to see my second Brimstone butterfly of the week, along with a Peacock.

Moving along, the Museum Gardens were packed with people taking the sun but we found a corner to play catch, and watched my first Small White of the year flutter by.

Then a circuit round the Minster and back through the shops, pausing only to browse the comic book/gaming store and to buy a new frisbee and a t-shirt each for the kids.

We'd never been on one of the boat trips before, so we finished with a cruise on Captain James Cook from which today's image comes. This is the point where the River Foss joins the Ouse, with the Foss Barrier flood gate visible beyond the blue pedestrian bridge that spans the mouth of the river.  Then just time for a short detour onto the wall (extra) on our way back to the station and a smooth journey home.
