Cape francolin

Francolinus capensis. We have several small flocks of these chaps in the village, which unlike yesterday's visitor, are most welcome.

I got up early to watch the cricket - it's just after 6 a.m. here in South Africa and mid-afternoon in Sydney - and spotted this small family group (8 birds) in the fynbos outside.

Some seed quickly lured them on to the stoep and the day's Blip was done.

I wanted a family pic, but the admonition about not working with animals or children holds true. I settled for this one.
