The latest Monarch Butterfly to emerge from her chrysalis, pausing for a few moments on a bunch of flowers on a swan plant, before flying to freedom and her new life in the wild.

Above her is a developing chrysalis - still in the early stages as it will become black as the butterfly reaches maturity and its about to emerge.  These stages can be seen by clicking on the tag below.

The extra photo is of the same butterfly, wings spread and showing the lack of two black spots on the wings which identifies the male of the species.
