Water straw

For droplet shots I usually try for the coveted high flying droplets or the glamorous splash crowns...today there were plenty of droplets but no crowns, since the liquid in the glass was too deep.

The one that caught my eye was this small suction crater and tiny, continuous stream of water that came out of the tip of the paintbrush as I lifted it out of the glass, before the individual drops started falling. The colors were also a surprise...I have no idea what caused the turqoise and the pale yellow, it's a clear glass with inky blue colored water.

Technique, if you can call it that:
- tripod, straight 50mm lens, bright backlighting
- use an object (pencil) to focus manually somewhere in the center of the glass
- about 250 single shots, rapidly taken one after the after, dropping with the left hand, snapping with the right, figured one of them would work!
- picture closely cropped
