Great Horned Owl
We went for guided bird watching walk today. Deana, our guide was fabulously knowledgeable. We saw twenty three different types of birds. All were new to me except the European starling. The most striking one was this Great Horned Owl. It is a massive beast two feet high weighing in at over 3 lbs. In contrast the Anna's humming bird and Rufous humming bird were only about 3 or 4 grams! The image is not great but is does give an idea of what the bird is like. A few other birds we saw were: turkey vulture, zone tailed hawk, common black hawk (which is not common apparently), ladder-backed woodpecker, green-tailed towhee, blue grosbeak, and summer tanager. I spotted it which wasn't difficult as it is so huge.
