Johnas Wolfe and his family

The man on the left with the hammer in his hand is my great-great grandfather. As a young man with blacksmithing skills he accepted the promise of the leaflets scattered through Germany and up-rooted his family to take them to America.
I doubt that I would have that kind of courage.

The picture was taken shortly after the American Civil War.
