Entrance to the Mine Shaft Tavern

This tavern is in Madrid, NM. The 'a' in Madrid is pronounced like the 'a' in cat. Madrid used to be a mining town starting in the mid 1800's and end in the mid 1900's. Madrid is still a destination on the Turquoise Trail, Route 14, between Santa Fe and I 40 just East of Albuquerque. There is an abandoned mine museum located next to this tavern. The county recently closed the portion of this mine left oped due to safety issues, however, there is machinery people can still see and buildings for visitors to see.there is also a steam engine on the grounds that visitors can climb into/.
