This Monday's...
... local history blip is in Harrogate town centre. The original photo, taken probably about 100 years ago shows a couple of shopping arcades. These disappeared in stages (to accommodate a cinema, parts destroyed by fire, and others replaced by discount shops).
Then in the late 1990s, what remained was flattened to make way for the mammoth Marks & Spencer store.
The only parts of the original picture which remain are the building on the left, which still houses a first floor cafe, and Harrogate theatre on the extreme right (where all we can see is a little bit of the canopy on the corner of the building).
