On the drive north he was asking if robots would take over and destroy mankind. I told him the plot - if you can call it that - of 2001 A Space Odyssey. He kept asking me why, and what it all meant and creased up with laughter at the notion that books have been written explaining the meaning.

Here he is, throwing a stick bone into space and hoping it will turn into a space ship.
