The Lion and The Lamb
Otherwise known as Helm Crag.
We have arrived back in Keswick and are here until Thursday.
As the weather improved when we left Lancaster (after the obligatory visit to see Ali and Lucie) we decided to take the route via Windermere and travel through the middle of the lakes. We stopped in a lay-by to take this shot.
Alfred Wainwright said of Helm Crag: “The virtues of Helm Crag have not be lauded enough. It gives an exhilarating little climb, a brief essay in real mountaineering.”
We have done it several times. It looks great from the road just after Grasmere where the two rocks on the top resemble the eponymous animals. From the top of Dunmail Raise the rocks take on a different shape and it is called "The Howitzer" or the lady playing the organ.
