Tonto National Monument
This morning we were at the Salt River Recreation area with most of the other blippers, walking along the trails and along the water looking for birds. Many of the blippers got fabulous pictures of very colorful, very unusual birds..........I was not one of them!
We left that area and drove to Coon Bluff where we spotted a lovely young lady standing in a tree (she was having her senior pictures taken) and hiked down to walk along a riverbed which offered some lovely views and photo ops. (pics of both are in the extras).
My favorite area is my blip for today--the Tonto National Monument--an old cliff dwelling inhabited by the Indians from about 1200-1400. We walked up a half mile long paved trail, ascending 350 feet, and both the dwelling and the views surrounding it were unbelievable! The Lake off in the distance is Theodore Roosevelt Lake. After driving an hour and a half to get back near the hotel, we went looking for the burrowing owls that were seen yesterday, and were lucky enough to see 4 of them! Another really fun day! :))
