Of Leaks and Pennies
The new entrance to the south campus of IESE is settling down. A quieter day than yesterday workwise but with its own challenges. The annual gas boiler inspection man found a leak at the gas meter early this morning which is located in a box that opens onto the street at pavement level. The gas leak man arrived shortly thereafter to cut off the supply until the leaking pipe work had been dealt with. Luckily our local gas repair man was in the barrio and managed to fit the new pipe work and soldering into his schedule before I called the gas reconnection man with his funny long air tube contraption like a five foot thermometer to the scene to check the system was secure. He turned out to be not only a gas reconnection man but also a numismatist who enquired if I had any pound coins of the old variety on me. He nearly swooned when I opened our coin drawer where we dump loose change from our travels and went away with a complete set of British coins from a penny to a two-pound bit, an Egyptian pound, an Hungarian Forint, an Abu Dhabi dirham and Brazilian real. It was one way to ensure he approved the reconnection and that I will have hot water going into the weekend. And he'll have a tale to tell to his mates at the Sunday numismatist meet.
