...at the Petrified Forest.
We left Tuba City for Winslow (as in the Eagles Song: "Take it Easy") this morning, and along the way we saw some Hopi ruins, pulled over and walked around them. We arrived in Winslow, which is where I took the first 2 pictures in my extras--Winslow is on the old Historic Route 66, & I couldn't resist this place! Talk about going back in time!
From Winslow we drove to the Petrified Forest where we spent the rest of the day hiking around. Millions of years ago, the trees here fell into the water, were buried in sand, and gradually absorbed the minerals from the earth. They became petrified, and the minerals have given them some really pretty colors! I've put a couple pictures in my extras of those, as well. We waited up on one of the overlook areas for the sun to set, then headed to our hotel. :))
