St Botolph's
There are 68 St Botolph's on the Pilgrim's Way because he was the patron saint of travellers. Pilgrims walked from Winchester to Canterbury to visit the tomb of Thomas a Becket who was canonised in 1173. This ties up with the earliest records of this church in the Diocese of Rochester dating from 1122. The route in many places follows an old trackway that has been in existence for 3000 years. Just think how many people have walked up this track. Luckily for them in the last 900 years they have been able to have a rest at St Botolph's
The church is full of really interesting history and features and luckily for walkers on the Pilgrims Way is open most days. I drove to it but there were back packed visitors also having a good look round
