Diary of an Edinburgher

Liver muffin. Yippee!

16° was the expected high here today, and in Scotland, that's summer! And so we hit the road to the coast early, with a view to fitting in the bacon bap at Porty that we omitted yesterday - it had been preying on my mind.

The wee caravan was already busy, but we got a seat and had our baps and coffees and bought a liver muffin for Archie. The look on his face is always worth £1. (Though he only gets a few crumbs - most of it he gets over a day or two at home. )

After a wee stroll along the beach we headed east, and stopped at Gullane Beach, a place we've never been before, for some reason. It was smashing! Beautiful sand, sheltered bay, and the sea looked quite tempting for a paddle, though I only got accidental wet feet. A picnic would have been ideal, but alas, we were not that organised.

There was quite a steep hill down to the beach, and therefore back up when we came to leave, but when I got to the top a vision greeted my eyes - an ice cream van had appeared!

Though what we really wanted was a cold drink, as the the salty breakfast bacon was beginning to get its own back. There was no point in trying to get a seat in Gullane Falko's (which is dog friendly) as it's always jam-packed. But back along the road we knew where there was a foodie caravan, so we headed back there and were saved by a Coke, while resisting the (famous) fish and chips.

Another walk along the beach, this time a rocky one (extra). And it was almost hot... Roll on summer proper!

The only fly in the ointment was the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the way back. Oh, and Archie being sick THREE times. He doesn't seem to be growing out of it...
