7am Campbeltown from Low Askomill

11.7C with sunny sunshine all day long. Light E/ESE/NW/WNW breeze.

Maeve the Deerhound almost made it to the alarm clock. We were up and out by 6.30am. Too late for a sunrise but the clouds had thinned and there was much more sunshine than yesterday. We took our time and headed across the green and went over to the old pier at the start of Low Askomill to get the low sun lighting up the harbour and the town.

After an early lunch and a quick walk with Maeve, I went along to the introductory session of "The Raiders of the Lost Archive". This will be a group of local people, with help and input from one or more archivists, who will be enabled to do research on the documents and images found when the Campbeltown Picture House was opened up for renovation. There will be a series of workshops so people can become skilled and then research groups are expected to form.

Today there were introductions round the table, a presentation by the lead archivist, then some hands on time to let us see what sort of documents there were and to get a feel for what we might want to look into. Intended results should be a web site, one or more blogs, and results of research done on the people and artefacts revealed from the archive. One or more exhibitions should appear at some point, hopefully when the Picture House reopens. There is another meeting next Saturday to demonstrate what is there in terms of microfilm and to look at ways of digitising documents and images. I have a list of questions for next week because I felt the meeting was a bit directionless and that people could drift away before they find a niche or a group they can be comfortable with.

When I came home I took Maeve out for a wander along to the park just to get some fresh air and to see some of the sunshine.
