Gulls
There I was, telescope on one tripod, camera on the other when this guy comes up and asks anything other than the usual suspects out there? So this is where the veneer of looking like I know what I'm doing is blown away, because I really struggle with gulls. I'd heard there were a few Yellow-legged gulls around and even a first summer and a juvenile Caspian Gull and that this pit, New Workings at Paxton Pits, was somewhere I'd never been to before. So I'm here, having an explore, with the bird books, trying to identify some of these more "exotic" gull species.
Today's picture? The central bird seems to have a slightly darker grey back than a Herring Gull and seems to have yellow legs - so we'll call that a Yellow-legged Gull - check out RCB for a closer view. As for the first summer and juvenile Caspian Gulls, well if they were there I wasn't good enough to find them.
One thing I did learn today was that Youngshank's new Canon 115 HS does a far better job at digiscoping than my Panasonic TZ8.
