Another Wisley Wednesday
This time us Seed vollies took part in the Curatorial Team Day - every couple of weeks massed swarms of gardeners assemble from every part of the garden to tackle big jobs to get them done quickly and efficiently. It's a great way to meet lots of the other staff who you'd normally never get the chance to work with.
We were assigned 'Edibles: mulching'. The newly planted collections of gooseberries and redcurrants needed a thick layer of bark chips to finish off the area. And so began 4 solid hours of shovelling and barrowing tons and tons of bark chips. In the pouring rain and buffeting wind. It was brilliant! Odd how the things that sound most unappealing on paper turn out to be the best experiences. It did require several large cups of tea and several even larger slices of cake to recover though once I'd got home. There are worse hardships to endure!
