Nikki Maloney's house.

I stayed with Nikki and Margee in their spectacular house for 2 nights. In the construction of their new home they salvaged, re-used, re-purposed the old hardwood beams, timber floorboards and even the old electric switchboard from the remains of the previous house which had been in varying stages of deterioration. Nikki resolutely continued to live in it for 17 years waiting patiently to realise her dream of designing and building NM's house.

The house maximises light and ventilation with the clever use of wood, angular lines, glass, copper and concrete.

The garden is filled with natives and succulents. In an inner city neighbourhood, the many spaces feel like they come together as a light filled, peaceful and lush green retreat.

Architecture tours happen in this beautiful home and ever since it's been featured in a magazine, more and more people know it as Nikki Maloney's house. It has its own hashtag.
