Johnshaven
with a population of 675 is situated on the North East coast between Inverbervie and Montrose. In 1722 it was said to be one of the most important fishing towns in Scotland and today a fair proportion of the population are still engaged in fishing and related activities, with lobsters and crabs being the main product. The fisherman's cottages with oilskins, boots, socks, and gloves drying in the sun outside look staged, as do the wooden fish boxes and lobster pots on the quayside.
We left the sunshine of Aberdeen early (26deg and the warmest place in Britain today) making the most of the last day of our holidays by stopping off at Johnshaven and Auchmithie and completing our journey via Crieff.
Back to work tomorrow.
