The Edge of the Wold

What a difference.....

What a difference a day (or two) makes.  This was Wednesday evening, today (Friday) has been a foul day of blustery rain.  Good for reservoirs and lakes, not so good for dog walks and sunset photography.  That said, the first thing I heard as I stepped out of the door this morning was a singing blackcap in the garden.  Doubtless one of the wintering birds rather than an early arrival of one of our breeding birds, but a glorious herald of Spring nevertheless.

Wednesday was a lovely evening to walk Gus along the estuary.  What a difference that extra daylight makes now, no more evening walks in the dark and dripping woods.   Ten things I love about the estuary walks (not exhaustive):

Sunsets reflecting on the water
The ever changing patterns of channels, creeks and mudflats
The tidal cycle
The bubbling calls of curlews
The ravens cronking in their nest high in the pines above where this was taken
The ancient lime trees that fringe.......
The rabbit field (I'm looking forward to the succession of flowers)
Gus and the joy of the woof trees
Maidenhair ferns on the dripping tufa
The evening movements of thousands of gulls into Morecambe Bay.

Wednesday evening and the sunset were achingly beautiful.
